Facelift, Face Lift or Facial Plastic Surgery
What causes our skin to age?
Over time, the relentless affects of gravity changes the appearance of our face. Skin stretches and droops resulting in excess skin of the jaw and neck. A New York, NYC Facelift helps restore the look of your youth by selectively canceling out those features which signify age. The cheeks are elevated, folds are flattened, jowls tightened, and the neck is re-draped. Your appearance is not replaced, but your younger appearance is restored.
Is there only one type of Facelift?
No. There are several variations of Facelift. Skin-only Face lift were popular many years ago and are still used in select situations. Intermediate depth face lifts achieve a lift at deeper levels. Deep plane facelifts strive to achieve these changes just above the bones of the face. After a thorough evaluation by Top Facelift Specialist Dr. Hoffman, the technique that is best for you will be selected. [read more about Facelift]
What type of anesthesia is used during a Facelift?
Dr. Hoffman usually performs these Facelift procedures under local anesthesia with sedation by a board certified anesthesiologist of his choosing
Where will my incisions be placed and what can I expect during my Facelift recovery?
The Face Lift incisions are designed to become nearly unperceivable; just in front of the ear and wrapped around to the hairline of the neck. The following day, the dressings are removed. Sutures are removed over a period of days as you heal. The amount of swelling experienced varies, but you may resume most normal activities within two weeks. After three weeks most of the postoperative signs of Facelift surgery will resolve.
What causes our neck to look old?
As we age, gravity and fluctuations in weight can cause our neck to develop excess fat and a looser, less defined jaw-line. A neck lift, sometimes referred to as a mini-Facelift or neck contouring, is a long lasting solution that can help create a youthful, more defined and attractive jaw-line. However, it’s important to know that a neck lift will not treat an aging face, which may require a Facelift.
What is involved in a Neck Lift procedure?
A neck lift typically is a combination of fat removal with liposuction and skin tightening. The procedure can last anywhere between 45 minutes to three hours, depending on the situation. There is minimal downtime after surgery. Most patients can return to work and normal activities within 3 – 7 days. Final results are long lasting and can be visible after swelling has completely diminished (4 – 6 months).
Are there alternative procedures to a Neck Lift?
For a select group of older patients, a direct excision of the ‘waddle’, may be a good alternative. This can be accomplished with local anesthesia and minimal down time.
Chin Implant - Chin Augmentation
What is the benefit of Chin Augmentation?
Chin implants or chin augmentation is a commonly requested procedure. The chin is an important reference point in relationship to the rest of the facial features such as the neck, nose, lips, and forehead. In-fact, a Chin implants can significantly strengthen facial features, enhance the profile of the face, and create better overall facial harmony.
How do I select which Chin Implant is right for me?
There are a variety of Chin implant materials to consider, and Dr. Hoffman can help guide you through understanding your selection. There are also two methods for performing this procedure. Patients can choose to have the Chin implant inserted either through an incision beneath the chin or inside the mouth, below the lip. The latter option is a good option to consider because it avoids visible scaring.
Why is the MACS Facelift so popular?
I believe that the MACS Facelift patients are the happiest patients we see. Usually, these patients have thought a lot about what bothers them about the facial aging process. It generally comes down to the jowls and the hanging neck. They enter the office with some trepidation; their fears center around “not wanting to look different”, being pulled too tightly, downtime and anesthesia. We spend a great deal of time discussing these and other pertinent issues.
In over 20 years of surgical practice, I have never been excited as I now am with the Facelift. This Facelift technique addresses the primary concern that most women (and men) have in terms of avoiding that windswept pulled look. This elegant, yet simple Facelift procedure was developed by Drs. Tonnard and Verpaele in Belgium. In essence, it is a short scar technique, with an upward pull, and minimal undermining of skin.
What are the benefits of the MACS Facelift compared to a traditional Facelift?
The short scar technique allows for a temporal hairline incision, which continues into the ear. It is hidden and does not extend behind the ear, so patients can generally wear their hair pulled back. The upward pull, as opposed to up and back, is more natural, as it counteracts the effects of gravity. There is less lifting up of the skin compared to traditional lifts. Once this patch of skin is elevated, the tissue underneath is tightened with purse string sutures, in order to provide long lasting results.
What can I expect during the MACS Facelift procedure?
The MACS Facelift is performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, whichever the patient prefers. The operation is an out patient procedure, which takes about two and one half hours to perform. Patients are generally bruised and swollen for 1 to 2 weeks. The potential complications of bleeding and infection are extremely rare.
What are patients saying about the MACS Facelift?
Patients tend to be referred by friends and family members who have had the Facelift plastic surgery procedure. They are very satisfied and enthusiastic about the ‘natural look’, the quick recovery and local anesthesia. This has revolutionized my practice by providing a superior cosmetic surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation. Several so called non invasive techniques have been recently marketed, such as barbed sutures, lasers and filling materials. They sound appealing because of the minimal down time and immediate results. However, they can never duplicate quality and longevity of a MACS Facelift.
Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty
What is a Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty?
Tummy Tuck removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. The Tummy Tuck procedure, performed by Dr Hoffman in NYC also helps to flatten the abdomen by tightening the surrounding muscles.
Who is an ideal candidate for Abdominoplasty?
Women with stretched abdominal areas due to previous pregnancies can benefit considerably from Tummy Tuck. Older individuals whose skin has lost some of its elasticity and are slightly obese can experience an improvement in their abdominal area.
If you are in generally good physical shape but are concerned about abdominal fat deposits or loose skin that does not respond to diet and exercise, the procedure can potentially reduce or even eliminate a protruding abdomen.
What type of scaring can I expect with a Tummy Tuck?
A Tummy Tuck can produce a permanent scar, which can possibly extend to both sides of your hips, although the scar will likely be located below the bikini or bathing suit line.
Who is a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck NYC?
The best candidates for Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty are in good physical condition with pockets of fat or loose skin that haven’t responded well to diet and exercise. We can also help older, slightly obese people whose skin has lost some of its elasticity.
Tummy Tuck can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscles from pregnancy. Results from the tummy tuck procedure will likely diminish if women continue to bear children, so we advise patients who plan to become pregnant to delay Tummy Tuck.
We also encourage patients who intend to lose a lot of weight to wait before undergoing the procedure, since skin in the abdominal area typically loosens after substantial weight loss.
Do you customize a Tummy Tuck to optimize patient’s cosmetic results?
We take the time during every pre-operative consultation to learn what his patients want to achieve from a Tummy Tuck both for their bodies and for their self-confidence. By listening to what patients have to say and closely examining them rather than performing a one-size-fits-all procedure on every person, we provide patients with completely customized treatment that takes into account their specific goals.
What can I expect during my Tummy Tuck procedure?
A Tummy Tuck takes approximately two to five hours under general anesthesia. The surgeon will make two incisions: one from hipbone to hipbone close to the pubic area, and another around the navel. He or she will separate the skin from the abdominal muscles, which are then pulled together and stitched into place for a firmer abdomen and narrower waist. He or she will stretch the skin flap down and over the newly tightened muscles, remove excess skin, and reattach the navel in a natural position. Finally, he or she will close the incisions and apply sterile surgical dressings over the sutured areas.
What can I expect during my Tummy Tuck recovery?
A temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the Tummy Tuck surgical site. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months.
What type of results can I expect with a Tummy Tuck?
A Tummy Tuck will leave a scar spanning the lower abdomen from hip to hip. We are very careful to make the incision low enough for even a bikini to conceal the scar. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting.
What are the potential risks of Tummy Tuck Surgery?
Though rare, post-operative complications from Tummy Tuck surgery are possible. They may include infection, blood clots, and poor healing, which may require further surgery.
Patients who have had previous Tummy Tuck surgery should know that their old scars could be raised, stretched or generally more noticeable after the procedure. A scar revision procedure after Tummy Tuck may minimize the appearance of an unsightly scar.
What is a partial Abdominoplasty (a.k.a. A Mini Tummy Tuck)?
Partial Tummy Tuck is similar to abdominoplasty except a shorter incision is made and the skin is only lifted to the navel, which does not have to be moved.
